That's right, seemingly seconds after Flyers training camp began, they will play their second preseason game tonight. I can't think of any sport where the live-action portion of camp is arrived upon so quickly. Unlike last night's 3-1 loss to the Red Wings in Detroit, tonight's game against Toronto will even be televised. That is, if you have the NHL Network, which thankfully I do.
Here's a summary on last night from someone who also didn't see it, but still managed to cobble together some great notes. The big take-homes for the Flyers were that James vanRiemsdyk scored the team's lone goal, Pronger logged huge minutes, and Razor stopped 23 of 25 shots. OH! and they still take too many penalties, even with absolutely nothing on the line. They weren't going to fix everything in the off-season, right? However, Blair Betts, Ian Laperiere, et al shut out the Wings PP unit, killing every penalty. Could they be part of big PK unit for the Flyers this year? The biggest story in camp this year, at least for me, is whether JVR makes the team, and at least we know he's off to a good start. We'll see which of these trends continue tonight.
Ready for the big drop?
