Joffrey Lupul from the Toronto Maple Leafs has returned to the game on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Kings and again on Thursday night against the St Louis Blues after suffering from a groin injury. Falling Maple Leafs are a mess

Meanwhile hockey-crazed Toronto is up in arms over the state of the Maple Leafs. That city can live with a loose cannon mayor, but a free-falling hockey team creates much anguish.Coach Randy Carlyle didn’t mince words after his team’s ninth loss in 12 games.“For our hockey club tonight, it looked like we were totally brain dead in a lot of areas,” Carlyle told reporters during...

Leafs Phaneuf not changing physical game after suspension

Just because he’s coming off the first suspension of his NHL career doesn’t mean opposing players can expect to have their head down when they skate anywhere near Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf. Not unless they want to pay the price. “I play the style that I play and I’m going to continue to play the style that I play,” Phaneuf said on Friday. “Obviously with the suspension...

The Detroit Red Wings have essentially listed a single group of players taking part in both Alumni Showdown games against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, December 31st (at 1 PM and 3:30 PM, with the games airing on FSD, the CBC and the NHL Network), but the CBC snagged a split list of players taking part in games 1 and 2 from Toronto, and the following Leaf rosters were just...

Mike Augello: Suspension Shiftwork, Clarkson To Have Hearing; Leafs Vs Hawks

The Maple Leafs have faced their share of challenges this season, including injuries at a position they were already thin at and players performing well below expectations, but those hurdles have been exacerbated even further by leading the NHL in suspensions. Toronto has had five players penalized by the NHL. Phil Kessel served the final three games of the pre-season for the...

Game on Twitter: Leafs 1, Penguins 3 by   Curtis Morrison

Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs, coming off a 7-3 win over league-leading Chicago, take on Eastern Conference leader Pittsburgh in a game that could show if the team’s performance in Chicago should be taken seriously as a step forward, or pushed to the side as an outlier in the spreadsheets of the Twitter bloggers. Pittsburgh is an amazing 8-1-1 in [...]

Leafs show heart in victory over the Blackhawks, 7-3

On a day when Toronto got whacked by its first winter blizzard, the Air Canada Centre got whacked by the Teamsters and David Clarkson got whacked with his second suspension, expecting the Maple Leafs to halt their fish-tailing skid down the standings with the defending Stanley Cup champions in town would have been, well, whacky. Asked what was required of his team to rise to the...
