Longtime goalie Dominik Hasek, a six-time Vezina Trophy winner, has retired after 15 NHL seasons. The 47-year-old spent the 2010-11 season with Spartak Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League. He had hoped to return to the NHL, but couldn't find a team. "There were training camps starting in the AHL and I wanted to participate," Hasek told reporters. "I needed to play preseason games, to be part of the hockey environment [in North America]. I was in touch with one NHL club and I had pretty good feelings about it, but then they called my agent and told him there was no interest from their side anymore." Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 10th round of the 1983 NHL Draft, Hasek emerged as a top goalie after being traded to the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo dealt him to Detroit in 2001, and he led the Red Wings to the Stanley Cup in 2002. He retired that, but sat out just one season.
