Jaroslav Halak trained this summer like he never had before in three seasons as a Blue. The reason was to strengthen his groin which would help him avoid any lingering issues with an injury that sidelined him twice in 2012-13. What began as a preventative measure could be viewed too as a proactive push with regard to Halak’s conditioning. Without the injury perhaps the Blues goaltender doesn’t rededicate himself in the weight room. And without that commitment who knows where Halak would be entering the 2013-14 season the last on his contract. Instead Blues fans know right where to find Halak in the crease and arguably topping the list of reasons the team is still unblemished at 3-0 heading into Saturday’s game against the New York Rangers. Among goalies with three appearances this season he’s tied for fourth in the NHL in goals-against average (1.33) and save-percentage (.948). “Everybody knows how hard he worked in the summer and it’s showing on the ice” Blues defenseman Alex Pi...

Blues are demonstrating their new offensive mentality

ST. LOUIS -- A St. Louis Blues team that had to win a lot of 2-1 games to make the playoffs last year has come out smokin' offensively this season, winning its first three games by a combined score of 14-4. Ten players have produced those 14 goals, including three by Alexander Steen and two each by David Backes and Vladimir Tarasenko. That's no accident. The Blues knew...

Video: Alexander Steen's late goal against Chicago

I could watch Alexander Steen beat Chicago with 21.1 seconds left in the third over and over again. You probably could too. Now you can! I've watched Steen's charge up the ice several times now and his late heroics seem more impressive now than they did when they actually happened. What a blast. What perfect timing to get his shot off right before contact was made from...

Steen's late goal lifts Blues to 3-2 victory over Hawks

It wasn’t a playoff game. That was down the street at Busch Stadium. But for the Blues and Chicago Blackhawks and the 16565 fans who opted for hockey over baseball the early-season meeting felt like a postseason matchup. “We’ve kind of been joking … it’s going to be the first playoff game of the year” Chicago captain Jonathan Toews said before the game. “It’s not...

Halak’s Been A Body Of Work Early This Season

from Norm Sanders of the News-Democrat, "Jaro didn't play (last year) because he got hurt," St. Louis Blues coach Hitchcock said of Halak, who played in only 16 games last season because of groin injuries and was 6-5-1. "If he doesn't get hurt he's playing. They both (Halak and Brian Elliott) had sketchy starts to the year and then Jake (Allen) came...

Rivalry Night: Blackhawks 2, Blues 3

The first real rivalry game pitted the Chicago Blackhawks against their division rivals, the St. Louis Blues. A great game by both squads came down to the final minute of play when Alexander Steen spotted the game winning goal for the Blues. The Blackhawks came out fierce in the first period, dominating play for the first eight minutes. And no St. Louis vs. Chicago game would be...

NBCSN premiered NHL Rivals on Tuesday night heading into Wednesday's Blues-Blackhawks clash. NHL Rivals is a show designed to educate and show off some of the best rivalries the game has to offer. One of these, of course, is the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks.  Did the show do a nice job of summarizing the rivalry? Overall, how would you rate the show?  ...

Pick The Winner (10/12)

And now from the home office.....Pick The Winner. Good luck. 2 UNIT = New York Rangers @ St Louis Blues - BLUES -1.5 [Puck Line] (+155) (Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 3.10 units) Another fade of the New York Rangers here, as we take the Blues to win by 2 or more at home.
