Victor Hedman had two goals and an assist to help the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Wednesday night, spoiling Vincent Lecavalier's homecoming. Lecavalier, who played 14 years for the Lightning after being selected first overall in the 1998 draft, faced his old team for the first time and scored a power-play goal late in the third period. The former Tampa Bay captain received a standing ovation after a video tribute was played on the scoreboard midway through the first. Ondrej Palat and Tyler Johnson also scored for the Lightning, who have won seven in a row at home. Tampa Bay, behind goalie Ben Bishop, beat the New York Rangers 5-0 Monday night.

Hedman takes spotlight in Bolts 4-2 win over Flyers

On a night in which the Lightning celebrated the past accomplishments of former top pick Vinny Lecavalier, Tampa Bay’s future was on full display. Lecavalier was honored for returning to Tampa on Wednesday for the first time in an opposing jersey, but it was Victor Hedman night as the defenseman was in on all the offense in a 4-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers in front...

Michael Stuart: Hedman's Heroics Propel Lightning Past Flyers

Buoyed by a three point outing from Victor Hedman, the Tampa Bay Lightning shut down the Philadelphia Flyers en route to a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night. The win, which moves the team’s record to 16-8-1, is Tampa’s seventh “W” in a row on home ice at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The Lightning came out of the gate flying and dominated the Flyers right from puck...

Vinny Lecavalier completes first return against Lightning

TAMPA, Fla. -- Marty St. Louis was in the middle of a good laugh. He was recalling practices with his friend Vinny Lecavalier, remembering how the two used to go at it for the puck in the ice's corner, Lecavalier's 6-foot-4 frame towering over St. Louis' pint-sized 5-foot-8. St. Louis, the Tampa Bay Lightning's new captain, relived the fun times. He spoke from the...

Bishop 'okay' after puck hits hand

The Lightning seemed to dodge a bullet Wednesday as G Ben Bishop left the morning skate with a yelp of pain after taking a puck off his right hand near his thumb. Coach Jon Cooper said the goalie was okay, and Bishop, on his way out of the building, said the same. It was a brief positive moment for a team with a rapidly expanding injury list. Seven players are hurt, including star...

Watch: “Dmitry” Kucherov scores on his first NHL shot

Yesterday we told you about how the Tampa Bay Lightning had called up Nikita Kucherov, one of their top prospects, in an effort to jump-start their offense. And, lo and behold, Kucherov scored a goal in his first NHL game, on his first shift, on his first shot, to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead over the Rangers (Tampa Bay would go on to win 5-0. Consider the scoring drought over...

Lightnings’ Gudas considered day-to-day, should return by weekend

Tampa Bay Lightning tough guy Radko Gudas was missing from practice on Sunday after getting roughed up last Friday night in Tampa’s 1-0 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Coach Jon Cooper told the Tampa Tribune that both Gudas and forward Ryan Malone would miss some time but are expected to be back soon, perhaps by the end of the week. Gudas was presumably injured in spirited...

Martin St. Louis falls down during goal celebration

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Martin St. Louis was playing in his 1,000 career game and he made it a good one.  St. Louis finished with 2 goals and 1 assists, complete with this hysterical celly.  Might want to make sure you keep your balance when you celebrate there Marty. [imgflip.com]

Flyers-Lightning Preview

The decision to buy out Vincent Lecavalier's contract appears to be working out quite well for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lecavalier might have been questioning his choice of a new destination until recently. The leading goal scorer in franchise history plays against the Lightning for the first time in his 15-year career, and Lecavalier should get a warm reception from the crowd...

Team honors Lecavalier upon return

Former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier returned for the first time on Wednesday to the rink he called home for 14 years. Lecavalier appeared in 1,037 career games with Tampa Bay after being selected with the first overall pick in the 1998 draft. His 383 goals are a franchise record. Tampa Bay bought out the remaining seven years of his contract in June and he signed...

Penguins-Lightning Preview

The Tampa Bay Lightning have won the first two on a three-game homestand and are figuring out ways to earn goals without leading scorer Steven Stamkos. Finishing the homestand with a perfect record Friday will require them to figure out the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins have won seven straight against the Lightning dating to Jan. 15, 2012, including a 5-4 victory in Tampa Bay...

Michael Stuart: Lecavalier Returns

Vincent Lecavalier and the Philadelphia Flyers… It feels so wrong to type that. Vincent Lecavalier and the Philadelphia Flyers (10-11-2) are in Tampa tonight for a contest with the Tampa Bay Lightning (15-8-1). After struggling to start this 2013-14 campaign, the Flyers have really picked things up, as evidenced by their 6-2-2 record in their last 10 games. The Lightning...
