Jimmy Howard turned away 22 shots earning his second shutout of the season as the Wings defeated the Oilers 3-0 Thursday night from the Joe.
The Wings are now 10-0-1 in their last 11 regular season games against Edmonton which includes 8 straight home victories. Detroit has also gone five games without allowing a goal in the first or second period while Edmonton posed no real threat to break this streak as they’ve gone 0-3-1 in their last four games.
After a scoreless first, Jakub Kindl got things going for the Wings with his second goal of the season just a minute after Jordin Tootoo dropped the gloves with Edmonton’s Mike Brown. Detroit added their second goal of the game after Cory Emmerton was able to sustain pressure on and beat Devan Dubnyk stick side from the slot.
Justin Abdelkader later added an empty net goal (his first of the season) with just a little over a minute remaining in the third to put the game out of reach.
