The Carolina Hurricanes acquired forward Kevin Westgarth from the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday in a trade for forward Anthony Stewart and two draft picks. The Hurricanes gave the Kings a fourth-round pick in 2013 and a sixth-round pick in 2014 as part of the deal. Westgarth, 28, had a goal, an assist and 39 penalty minutes in 25 games for the Kings last season. In 90 career games with the Kings, he has one goal, four assists and 153 penalty minutes. "We were looking for a character, team guy who can play a gritty role for our team," Carolina president and general manager Jim Rutherford said. Stewart, 28, produced nine goals and 11 assists with 30 penalty minutes for Carolina last season. He also has played for Florida and Atlanta. In another deal Sunday, the Hurricanes traded backup goaltender Brian Boucher and prospect Mark Alt to Philadelphia for minor-leaguer Luke Pither.
