With Vancouver's biggest hole being at the third-line centre position, I thought today we would debate who the best third-line centres in the NHL are.
5- Darren Helm
I know he missed last season with a back injury, but as long as Helm is good to go, he's in my top five. The guy uses his speed well t...

Via RedWingsFeed, the Detroit News's Ted Kulfan hasn't revealed the Red Wings' training camp roster, but according to Kulfan, Daniel Cleary's not on the roster as a try-out and Damien Brunner's not on the roster, either, meaning that the Wings have moved on. That's to be expected given the team will exceed the salary cap to re-sign RFA Gustav Nyquist, and...
In a summer that saw them acquire Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss through free agency, the Red Wings took care of one of their own on Tuesday, agreeing to a two-year, 1.9 million deal with 23-year-old forward Gustav Nyquist.
Nyquist, a restricted free agent, wasnt going anywhere. The Wings have said all offseason that they would sign him, although it took a little longer than...
Gustav Nyquist reportedly signed a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings, worth $950K per season. Nyquist had been a restricted free agent and was the last of the Wings’ current free agents that GM Ken Holland had expressed an interest in getting signed before training camp.
The list of the Wings remaining, unsigned free agents: Damien Brunner, Daniel Cleary, Carlo Colaiacovo...
For better or worse, Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall entered last season as the de-facto #1 defenseman, and while playing 24-27 minutes a night (or more) yielded both a minus-5 plus-minus rating and a tempering of his physical play to simply hold up under a tremendous workload...He proved that he could at least fill part of Nicklas Lidstrom's long shadow.

As expected, the Detroit Red Wings announced via their website, that winger Gustav Nyquist agreed to a two-year contract with the club on Tuesday morning:

This seems like an appropriate Tweet given Gustav Nyquist's re-signing by the Red Wings this morning:

Monday was super busy from an "its summer news-wise" perspective, mostly because the second-to-last week in August usually marks the first time that NHL'ers take to the ice. Whether it was Daniel Alfredsson pissing people off in Ottawa (tip for "Alfie": there is nothing you can do that WON'T piss Ottawans off other than hauling tail to Metro Detroit) or...
Everyone is now signed sealed and ready for training camp.
The last piece of business for the Red Wings was officially completed Tuesday morning as restricted free-agent forward Gustav Nyquist agreed to a two-year contract worth $1.9 million.
Nyquist who'll be 24 on Sept. 1 scored three goals (with three assists) in 22 regular-season games and two goals and three assists in 14 playoff games.
Amongst this afternoon's Red Wings-related news, first, hold your nose:

I'm writing this entry "backwards" because its main thrust involves even more fun fun fun stuff pertaining to Daniel Alfredsson's "divorce" from the Ottawa Senators, and I know that you and I are both a little tired of the proceedings given Thursday's trainwreck, never mind the fact that it dragged on into the weekend.

Today marks the first official "back on the ice" day for many NHL'ers. The Detroit Red Wings are two forwards and about $700,000 over where they need to be when the regular season begins in October. And yet, GM Ken Holland continues to look for a way to get veteran Danny Cleary back in the fold.
The Detroit Free Press’ Helene St. James reported that “the plan is still to re-sign Cleary, who remains on the unrestricted free agent market but who...
