Jarome Iginla admitted that he had allowed himself to feel the exhilaration of scoring a goal for just a quick second when his soft shot trickled past Ryan Miller in Buffalo on Wednesday night. It would have ended an eight-game goal-less drought to start his Bruins career but instead the goal was awarded to Milan Lucic for re-directing the puck closer to the Sabres net. “It was maybe [for] a second and a half but it was good” said a smiling Iginla. “I had ‘the feeling.’ I remember what it felt like to [score]…to feel for a second like oh it went in.” Still that little feeling of blissful scoring confidence was perhaps all he needed. Iginla did finally scratch out his first goal with the Bruins 24 hours later to open the scoring in a 2-1 win over the Sharks that dealt San Jose its first regulation loss of the season. It was the second-longest scoreless stretch for the 36-year-old Iginla to start a season in his storied 17-year career but it was all over in the closing minutes of the second period. Dennis Seidenberg had fired a rocket from the left point that bounced off the end boards and straight to Iginla on the right side of the net. The right wing flipped the puck at the net and it bounced off his leg pads before sliding past the goal line. “It’s been longer than I would’ve liked but it sure felt good to get it here and to get it at home in a tight game” said Iginla. “Obviously it was a good bounce. It wasn’t exactly how I envisioned it shooting it in or whatever you take. But anytime actually you take any [goals].” Iginla still leads the Bruins with 27 shots on net through nine games this season and everyone around the former Calgary Flames captain knew it was only a matter of time before he got one that counted. “It’s been good. Obviously we’ve been able to produce and get some big goals at key times. He’s shown that once he gets hot he gets hot” said Lucic of his new linemate. “Hopefully this one opens up the floodgates for him.
