Yes, you read that correctly. Forward Erik Christensen made a very ambitionist-like comment in regards to tonight's rivalry game against the New York Islanders when talking with the media yesterday after practice. I know, that seems ironic since Christensen shows little life in each game he plays, but apparently matching-up against the Isles gets him going slightly more than other opponents.

"We try and get up for every game, and every game is two points, but the Islanders are our main rival, and going into their building is always intense. It's almost the same atmosphere as playing in our building. If you can't get up for this game there is something wrong with you."

In all honestly, I feel as if the Rangers' rivalry with the Philadelphia Flyers has reached new levels over the years and may have surpassed that of the Islanders, but that's probably a result of the nastiness and bitterness shown on the ice between the two clubs. In my eyes, there's more hype created by the fans than there is by the players when it comes to Rangers vs. Islanders.

Nonetheless, Christensen is absolutely right. There should be no problems getting up for a game against a rival this early in the season, especially considering the team has yet to capture a win after going 0-0-2 to begin the year in Europe. This should be a game that they desperately want to win.

And although I am not Christensen's biggest fan, I must give him credit for taking on a leadership role for a brief moment and making a comment like this in the media. Christensen will be in the lineup tonight with Wojtek Wolski (groin) out, so let's see if he follows through with it.

Check back this afternoon for Rangers-Islanders pregame, and also during the game for a new feature I am introducing that includes live in-game updates here on the blog.
