Just hours before the trade deadline strikes, speculation has swirled that Montreal Canadiens owner and president Geoff Molson has fired GM Pierre Gauthier.
It’s not true, he says.
“Rumours of Pierre Gauthier’s firing are false,” he said via Twitter.
The rumors, Molson refers to, is that Gauthier has been stripped of his duties, and that Molson was would take over as GM.
But should Gauthier be fired? Or will he? The tweet could be a cover up, for now.
Last season, the Ottawa Senators coaching staff was cleared right after the last game of the regular season.
Is the same looming for the Canadiens? Perhaps interim coach Randy Cunneyworth will be axed before he masters the French language, and Gauthier will be canned before he can piece together a worth product on the ice. It’ll be a while before high draft picks pay off, and the AHL basement affiliate of the Hamilton Bulldogs build up.
