Chicago Blackhawks Defenseman Brent Seabrook has been suspended by the National Hockey League for three games for his hit on St. Louis Blues Captain David Backes. Here is the video for those who have not seen yet.
The Blues are up 2-0 in their Stanley Cup (best of seven games) playoff series against the Blackhawks. There is no doubt that by removing Seabrook from the Hawks’ defense, a huge void has been created that will be tough to fill. The question must be raised, did the NHL do the right thing?
There is no doubt the hit is punishable. I am in no way defending Seabrook here, but by taking one of a team’s top players out of a playoff series, did the league go too far? They could have slapped him with a large fine or could have pushed his suspension to the beginning of the next regular season.
Does it matter that Backes was described as being “not good” by Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock after the game?
If this was during the regular season, I do not think anyone would have the rig...
