Just one day before the NHL trade deadline, the Bruins finally made a splash, acquiring veteran winger Jaromir Jagr from the Dallas Stars for a pair of prospects and a draft pick. Though Jagr, 41, becomes the oldest player on the Bruins roster (surpassing 38-year-old Jay Pandolfo), he also comes to Boston tied with Brad Marchand for the team lead in goals with 14. Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli addressed the trade prior to the team’s matchup with Ottawa on Tuesday, and he likened the addition of Jagr to Boston’s acquisition of another veteran forward, Mark Recchi, back in 2009. Recchi provided a sturdy veteran presence in what was then a relatively young forward corps and played a key role in the Bruins’ Stanley Cup run in 2011.
