Jeff Halpern was getting ready to leave Washington en route to New York, but had some final comments for the Washington media before his departure. Halpern, who implies that the Rangers plans on using him as a faceoff specialist and penalty killer, had this to say about signing with the Rangers.

"It’s a huge relief. It just makes the whole year more exciting knowing where you’re going and already planning on being part of that team."

Halpern also cited John Tortorella as an influencing factor in signing with the Rangers.

Halpern on Torts: "I liked playing for him in Tampa and I’ve always kind of admired from afar the teams that he’s coached. So I’m thrilled"

It's worth noting that Halpern played for John Tortorella previously, albeit for a short period of time, with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008. During that time, a (5 years younger) Halpern produced 18 points in 19 games. While getting that kind of production from Halpern is a pipe dream, the familiarity Jeff and Torts have for each other can only be a good thing.
