Former Colorado Avalanche and Quebec Nordiques captain Joe Sakic was among four players to be named to the Hockey Hall of Fame today. Sakic joins Pavel Bure, Adam Oates, and Mats Sundin as the four being elected to join the Hockey Hall of Fame. The vote took place today in Toronto at the annual meeting of the Selection Committee. Sakic, a native of Burnaby, British Columbia, scored 625 goals and recorded 1016 assists and won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche. Sakic was also one of the classiest players of the ice. Former coach Marc Crawford said of Sakic, "I talk about Joe a lot whenever I'm speaking. The one thing I say always sticks out for me was just how he was a great example of how to do work and how to be that high-end, elite professional." Sakic also won a gold medal for Team Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Other first round candidates that didn't make the cut were Claude Lemieux, Curtis Joseph, Gary Roberts, Jeremy Roenick, and Brendan Shanahan.
