I can’t believe that the referee and the linesman missed this elbow.  What on Earth were they watching?  This was a dirty hit and Capitals defenseman John Erskine was clearly targeting Wayne Simmonds head. After missing the puck, Erskine threw out an elbow to slow down Simmonds, who would have taken the puck down the ice on an odd-man rush and had a sure scoring chance.  The NHL has been cracking down on hits to the head, yet this was blatantly missed by the referee.  Even the linesman could have blown the play dead and called a major penalty on the play.  Erskine’s hit will certainly be reviewed by Brendan Shanahan and I’m guessing a suspension will be coming.  Simmonds bloodied his nose on the play and didn’t return to the game.[Puck Daddy Blog]

Simmonds takes elbow to face from Erskins

Washington Capitals defenseman John Erskine elbowed Philadelphia Flyers right winger Wayne Simmonds in the face, yet received no penalty, during the first period of Friday night's NHL game at the Verizon Center. Who’s to Blame for the Capitals Early Season Struggles?

Where can Caps fans place the blame? The Washington Capitals are arguably noted as one of the most dominant hockey teams in recent years during the regular season, but has a huge monkey on their backs for not being able to reach the Stanley cup during the Alexander Ovechkin era. Since the 2007-08 season, the Capitals have amassed a 237-125-48 record; finishing first in the division...

NHL Nightly Overtime – 2/1

Tonight’s NHL action featured a little bit of chaos. Some NHL gif’s include… Wayne Simmonds getting hit with a harsh elbow from John Erskine. We’re certainly curious if Brendan Shanahan will have something to say about this one. A shot of Simmonds on the bench following the hit. And following the Erskine hit, a scrap broke out between Zac Rinaldo and Matt Hendricks, which...

Know Your Enemy and Know Yourself

Sometimes, the most telling way to learn what you did right is through the eyes of your opponent. After his team lost 3-2 to the Capitals at the Verizon Center Friday, Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn complimented the Caps’ play in the third period, while his teammate Mike Knuble paid deference to the Capitals setting the tone of the game. “They played last night...

Hurricanes-Flyers Preview

Thanks in part to their offensive shortcomings, the Philadelphia Flyers are already enduring their second three-game slide of the season. Opening their first lengthy homestand against the Carolina Hurricanes would seem to be exactly what they need. The Flyers try to snap out of their scoring funk and avoid their first four-game skid in two seasons by continuing their dominance...
