TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat both scored their first NHL goals, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 on Saturday night. Nate Thompson and Teddy Purcell also scored for the Lightning, who stopped a five-game losing streak at home. Tampa Bay is 3-8 in its last 11 games. Eric Staal scored the only goal for the Hurricanes, who dropped to 3-7 against fellow Southeast Division games. Tampa Bay, with Mathieu Garon starting in goal each time, has won all three games this season against the Hurricanes. Tampa Bay has beaten three Carolina goalies -- Justin Peters, Cam Ward and Dan Ellis -- in the process. Carolina claimed Adam Hall off waivers from the Lightning before the game, and the veteran forward made his Hurricanes debut against his former team. Johnson put the Lightning ahead 1-0 when he beat Peters from the low left circle with 9:06 left in the first. Tampa Bay (12-15-1) is 11-1 when leading after one period. After Palat scored on a...

Speculation: Martin St. Louis To The Rangers?

Damian Cristodero, a Tampa Bay Lightning beat writer with whom I am familiar and respect, has initiated speculation on Martin St. Louis' future with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Though he admits there is no indication that either he or the Lightning have taken any steps towards moving him, it's a discussion that likely will happen. The Lightning are not in the playoff picture...

Would Tampa Bay Lightning trade Martin St. Louis?

So this is pure speculation and makes sense only Martin St. Louis, with a no-move clause in his contract, determines leaving gives him the best chance to again play for a winner before he retires. Consider these circumstances: When St. Louis in July 2010 signed a four-year, $22.5 million contract extension, he did so with the notion the organization, under new ownership and management...

Lightning get the puck in net in win over Carolina

The Tampa Bay Lightning were able to get some goals on the board in a crucial division win Saturday night over the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1.  The Bolts were ignited by the play of their rookies. Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat set the offensive examples for the game with the goals.  “I thought Johnson, Palat and Tyrell gave us momentum from their shift on the ice,” coach Guy...

Lack of shots from Lightning result in loss to Islanders

The Tampa Bay Lightning lose another frustrating game due to being outshot Thursday night against the Islanders, 2-0.  After the game, coach Guy Boucher addressed the lack of shooting: It’s the scoring chances and they’re the same. We don’t want to shoot when it’s not time. Seventeen chances we passed on and I don’t accept that. That can create rebounds, chaos, and that’s...

The book on Adam Hall

The Hurricanes added some depth to their bottom-six today by acquiring forward Adam Hall off waivers. Hall has been in the league for 10 seasons and has spent the last four years with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has a few 10+ goals seasons under his belt, but his best assets are his defensive play and faceoff prowess. He will play his first game for the Hurricanes tonight against...

Flyers-Lightning Preview

After snapping a lengthy home losing streak, the Tampa Bay Lightning will try to keep heading in the right direction with another dominant performance against the Philadelphia Flyers at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The Flyers, meanwhile, will seek to build off a hard-fought win and avoid a season high-tying fourth consecutive road defeat Monday night. Tampa Bay (12-15-1) ended its...

Game 27 Inside the Numbers: Hurricanes at Lightning

A 4-1 loss where the losing team manages to create only 11 total scoring chances is pretty bad and that's what happened to the Hurricanes last night against Tampa Bay. It's easy to write off this game as a poor effort by the entire team, but I think that's just a lazy way of analyzing the game. There were several players on the Hurricanes who worked hard and had good...

Preview: Flyers @ Lightning 3/17/2013

In yet another “must win” situation the Flyers will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in hopes of going into a six day break in the schedule on a high note. The Flyers are coming off of a rare shootout win over the Devils on Friday, 0-7 all-time against New Jersey in shootout before Friday’s [...]
