It’s not often that you see two superstars pair off to go at it with each other, but that’s exactly what happened on Friday night when the Chicago Blackhawks took on the San Jose Sharks. Sharks captain Joe Thornton has 26 fights under his belt now, and this gives Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews three total fights for his career. Toews was incensed the entire shift and was trying to get Thornton to fight, even taking a boarding penalty prior to the fight trying to get his attention. Unfortunately for Toews, this one backfired as it wasn’t much of a fight, and Thornton got the win.

Joe Thornton vs. Jonathan Toews. In a hockey fight. Let me repeat that for you. Joe Thornton vs. Jonathan Toews in a hockey fight. How rare is that? IT’S REAL F-ING RARE.
Toews had, until last night, just two fights in the NHL. TWO. Let me repeat, Jonathan Toews had just two fights in the NHL until last night when he instigated Joe Thornton (his NHL fight card).
Both are captains...
This is the new headgear for Sharks goalie Thomas Greiss. I have no clue what in the world that demon creature is supposed to be. Is it a zombie? Is it a werewolf? Is it a zombie werewolf? Maybe Ryane Clowe having a bad day? All I do know is my pants are now a little more damp than they were. [photo via @kkurzcsn]
Corey Crawford was not at Blackhawks practice on Friday morning, and is day-to-day with an “upper-body injury,” according to coach Joel Quenneville. Crawford was run over in the third period against Anaheim. He was slow to get up from the … Continue reading →The post Corey Crawford Injured, Blackhawks Recall Henrik Karlsson appeared first on Committed Indians.

In a promotion for the Illinois Lottery, Blackhawks winger Patrick Sharp dressed up in a dog costume and surprised a fan named Deb with a Valentines Day gift basket (in an attempt to demonstrate their motto that “anything’s possible”). She initially seems a little underwhelmed and confused by the whole thing, recognizing that she’s on camera and probably wondering why this...
Come on, San Jose Sharks. What gives?
Graphical errors during sports broadcasts are not a new phenomenon. And while said errors are perfectly understandable in light of the time crunch those charged with putting them together in order to air a competent, informative broadcast, they are nevertheless amusing when they do occur.
Take the one above from the postgame coverage of the San...
from Ben Strauss of the New York Times,
Blackhawks players seemed at a loss to explain their scorching start.
Right wing Patrick Kane, tied for second in the league through Wednesday with 20 points, said of his success, “Sometimes the puck finds you.”
Or as the captain Jonathan Toews put it, “I don’t know if there’s a method to the madness.”
The Chicago Blackhawks are off to an incredible start. After 14 games they are yet to suffer a loss in regulation. They have scored 19 goals more than they have allowed. A big part of their success is the play of Jonathan Toews. He is a great two-way player and my pick for the Selke Trophy at this point.
While playing on the league's top team he is clearly a step...

This one has all the earmarks of a trap game.
The Hawks are riding high in confidence, coming off a 4-1 thrashing of a top conference rival. On paper, they ook vastly superior to today's opponent. However, said opponent happens...
The Sharks started the season with a bang by winning the first seven games, unfortunately they have managed to drop the last seven and the current streak is reason for concern.
San Jose has been unable to find the recipe for turning around their fortunes. The Blackhawks had the bounces fall their way tonight and good fortune to go with it, but you have to be good to be lucky and a fortuitou...

Men’s tennis says goodbye to the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend.
After a tenure of nearly a century and a quarter, the ATP event in San Jose will end this weekend. The second-oldest tennis tournament in the United States, the SAP Open lately represented the only outpost of the men’s game in the Bay Area, which has hosted a successful WTA event early in the US Open Series...
