Karl Alzner may earn respect from his teammates for standing up to Milan Lucic on Monday night, but he may have also signed himself up for a beating. During a chippy 4-3 Boston win that went back and forth all night, a scuffle broke out late in the third period. Per usual, Lucic was at the center of it. When Alzner came up behind him and put him in a headlock during the dust-up, Lucic was not pleased. He was even less pleased when Alzner called him a baby and made a crying gesture at him. “I don’t even know what to say on my side to show I’m not a crybaby,” Lucic said after the game according to the Washington Post. “That’s a lot coming from a guy who I think has two roughing penalties in three years.” Bruins reporter Joe Haggerty asked Chris Kelly about the incident after the game, and Kelly said he doesn’t think Lucic has ever cried and that he came out of the womb angry. He’s certainly angry now. Good for Alzner for trying to be brave, but he has now officially infuriated th...

Video Of Boston Bruins Milan Lucic As An Amateur Teenage Boxer

A.B. This is why Lucic is feared in the NHL. He isn’t just some random scrub who thinks he is tough and racks up the penalty minutes for fun. Lucic actually knows what he is doing and each battle he fights – he goes in prepared. Kind of crazy to think that 17 year old Lucic was just as brutal and scary as he is today. Now he just has a stick added to the equation. (function...

from TSN, Nicklas Backstrom of the Washington Capitals is scheduled for a disciplinary hearing as a result of his cross-check on Boston Bruins forward Rich Peverley at the end of Monday’s game. Backstrom was assessed a match penalty on the play. The hearing will likely be held on Wednesday with Game 4 of the series slated for Thursday. Capitals head coach Dale Hunter defended...

Capitals C Backstrom suspended 1 game for hit

Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom has been suspended by the NHL for one game after cross-checking Boston Bruins forward Rich Peverley at the end of Game 3 in their first-round series on Monday night. Backstrom was given a match penalty for attempt to injure, which carried an automatic suspension. Washington coach Dale Hunter said earlier Tuesday that Backstrom '...

Bruins Can't Afford Another No-Show From Offensive Stars As Series With Capitals Shifts to Washington

The Bruins are going to Washington, and they better bring their offensive game. The B's and Capitals will play Game 3 of their first-round series on Monday night in D.C., and Boston needs to find its offense. One of the highest-scoring teams in hockey this season, the Black and Gold have just two goals to show for in their two games thus far. Tim Thomas and a superb defensive...

Nicklas Backstrom Given Match Penalty at End of Game 3, Capitals Forward Suspended for Game 4

The Bruins and Capitals were locked into a fierce battle throughout the night during Monday's Game 3, and in the end it looks like Washington may be paying for some of the aggressive tactics. Capitals forward and Game 2 hero Nicklas Backstrom was hit with a "match penalty" at the end of Game 3, after what was deemed misconduct at the end of the game. The penalty also...

Capitals Release Statement on Nicklas Backstrom Suspension, 'Don't Understand' Ruling

The Washington Capitals are confused. The Caps are confused after forward Nicklas Backstrom was suspended for Game 4 of Washington's series with the Bruins after Backstrom was assessed a match penalty at the end of Game 3. Backstrom caught Bruins forward Rich Peverley up high with a cross-check in a postgame scrum, and that was apparently enough for him to have to sit out a game...

Capitals disagree with Backstrom's suspension

Backstrom and Ovechkin (Photo credit: clydeorama) Of course they do. The moral of the story is don't cross check someone in the face at the end of the game like Backstrom did. It's really a pretty easy concept. Katie Carrera, Washington Compost --- They’d much rather have their top center in the lineup for an important Game 4 at Verizon Center on Thursday as...

Dale Hunter Accuses Bruins of Targeting Nicklas Backstrom's Head

Capitals coach Dale Hunter was a hated man during his playing days, as he was often accused of going over the line as a dirty player. Now, as a head coach, Hunter is accusing the Bruins of doing the same. Hunter spoke to the media on Tuesday, and he claimed that the Bruins have been targeting the head of Washington forward Nicklas Backstrom in the two teams' first-round series...

Backstrom suspended by the NHL.

This was the fourth suspension of the day. As expected, Nicklas Backstrom has been suspended by the NHL for his crosscheck on Richard Peverley which resulted in Backstom receiving a match penalty. The NHL wouldn't rescind the match penalty. Of course one of the dirtiest players to ever play in the NHL defended his player. I wouldn't expect anything less. ...

Ty Anderson: Solving Holtby enigma key for Bruins in Game 3

For a little over 140 minutes of hockey, I've watched the 22-year-old Braden Holtby stymie the Bruins shot after shot while the club amassed in front of him has become the team Washington GM George McPhee thought he had assembled after a busy offseason that initially came with little to no noticeable change. Now, to most, the deceptive seven-seeded Caps' ability to keep...

Jason Chimera spears Brad Marchand in the groin (Video)

Washington Capitals forward Jason Chimera speared Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand in the groin during Monday night's NHL playoff game in Washington. It happened in the third period as the video clearly shows Chimera using the blade of his stick to spear Marchand right in front of the referee. Chimera only got 2 minutes for slashing. However, the Bruins got the...

Boston Bruins 2012 Playoffs: A Game of Inches Remix Video

A.B. Is there anything better than an Al Pacino Any Given Sunday Boston Bruins remix? Now just imagine Claude Julien using a speech like this in the locker room. Sure it would sound a little French Canadien-ish, but how bad ass would that be? If this doesn’t get you excited for Boston Bruins playoff hockey, check for a pulse. (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName...

Bruins take 2-1 series lead over Capitals

The Boston Bruins took down the Capitals to take a 2-1 series lead When my friend Patrick W. Rooney called me to say that he acquired tickets to Game 3 of the Boston Bruins v. Washington Capitals series, I knew I had to go. Didn’t matter what the price was, I just had to be in the building to cheer on my beloved Boston Bruins in their chase for a second straight Stanley Cup. Of...

Steven Hindle: Caps vs Bruins: The Opportunity

Respecting Your Opponent Through seven periods, three minutes and 16 seconds of this opening round, the Washington Capitals have pestered the reigning Stanley Cup champions into a 1-1 tie through two games. They haven't done it the old fashion way, scoring goals en masse, but instead have gained home-ice advantage with some of the most committed defensive hockey Caps...

Sucked in

Last night, after having stolen home ice from the Bruins via a 2-1 2OT win on Saturday, the Capitals fell to the Bruins in Game 3 4-3.  Zdeno Chara gave the visitors the game winner with just under 2 minutes to go.  To make the sting all that much worst, Chara’s point shot found its way in via the blade of Roman Hamrlik’s stick as he attempted to clear some traffic in front...
