After a Big Bad Blizzard rocked the Northeast the Big Bad Bruins now have to rock the Buffalo Sabres. The two division rivals already faced once this year in a game that did not go well for the defensively minded Bruins. The Sabres scored 7 goals on the Bruins, one an empty net goal, against the Bruins who put up four goals themselves. The Bruins weren't only beat on the score board but also beat, literally, in the physical aspect of the game. Fan favorite and tough guy Shawn Thornton was beaten badly by goon John Scott and got a concussion. Thornton returns to the line up tonight but was advised by Mike Milbury repeatedly on CSNNE's new show Cross Check not to fight Scott again. Milbury repeatedly said Scott is a goon who cant do anything except fight (see the video here). Milbury said Thronton should just flash his ring at him and then skate around him. Either way the Bruins will have to smarten up and toughen up to win this game. 1) Focus on the Forwards. The Buffalo Sab...

Mikhail Grigorenko’s Benching “Part Of The Program”

Just what are the Sabres doing with Mikhail Grigorenko? Entering Sunday night’s game against Boston  many were left wondering that very thing after the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft has seen his playing time be reduced each night until he was made a healthy scratch for the contest against the Bruins. Grigorenko skated during warm ups with the team on Sunday night, but...

Still The Same In Buffalo

from Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News, High-ranking people from across the league are laughing at the Sabres, just as they did last year after the season turned ugly. What people, you ask? Sorry, but their names will remain private. It's an unfortunate but necessary aspect of the media that many don't understand, but with anonymity comes unfiltered opinions. And...

Have Those That Played During the Lockout Had an Advantage?

Today the Sabres face the Islanders in Nassau Coliseum thus completing the first quarter of this lockout shortened season.  It has been a disappointing start, both for the organization with a 4-6-1 record, and for many of the individual players who have struggled mightily out of the gate.  Injuries, a lack of training camp, and the condensed schedule have been the common excuses...

Containing Scoring Leader Thomas Vanek Will Be Key for Bruins in Buffalo (Video)

The Bruins played their worst game of the season the last time they faced off with Buffalo, and Sabres forward Thomas Vanek had a great deal to do with that. The 29-year-old Austrian tallied five points, including a hat trick, in his team’s 7-4 win over Boston and is off to perhaps the best start of his eight-year career. Vanek leads the NHL in both goals (11) and points (23) through...

Sabres 3, Islanders 2

Ryan Miller made 41 saves, and Alexander Sulzer scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period for the Buffalo Sabres, who earned a 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders despite being badly outshot Saturday night. Thomas Vanek and Christian Ehrhoff added goals for the Sabres, who won their second straight game. Buffalo was outshot 43-15 by the Islanders, who dropped...

Sabres Still Looking For Answers

Photo Courtesy: Bill Wippert/NHLI via Getty Images Another night, another game in which the offense struggled, the defense was awful, and Ryan Miller had to stand on his head in order to keep the Sabres in contention for a victory. For the third game in a row, and second in as many nights, the Sabres were horribly outplayed by their opponent. But unlike the previous two outings,...

Anton Khudobin Keys ‘Blizzard Bounce Back’ as Bruins Avenge Loss to Sabres, Keep Rolling in Win Column (Video)

On paper, it would appear that Anton Khudobin versus Ryan Miller favors the Buffalo Sabres. Luckily, hockey isn’t played on paper, it’s played on ice — where Khudobin was the better player on this night. The 26-year-old goalie made 25 saves to Miller’s 36, but the key was quantity, not quality this time around. The Bruins relied on their backstop to spark a bounce-back effort...

Claude Julien, Adam McQuaid Stress Importance of ‘Sticking With It’ in Win Over Sabres (Video)

Sunday night’s matchup between the Bruins and Sabres was an exercise in determination. The Bruins felt like they dominated play through the first 40 minutes, head coach Claude Julien said, but they were unable to solve Sabres goalie Ryan Miller and break a 1-1 tie. The B’s did not let up, though, and Patrice Bergeron finally snuck a one-timer past Miller with under nine minutes...

Khudobin stands tall in big win over Buffalo

After getting lit up on their home ice just over a week ago by Thomas Vanek and the Buffalo Sabres, the Bruins, powered by a strong performance from back-up goaltender Anton Khudobin, secured a 3-1 win last night in what has become a heated rivalry. Shawn Thornton was back on the ice along with Sabres' enforcer John Scott, who knocked Thornton out for several games with a concussion...

Mike Milbury on Bruin's struggling power play (video)

As Milbury suggests in his analysis here (from CSNNE.com) , the Bruin's continuing inability to score on the power play really is puzzling, because the talent is there. Their roster is talented from top to bottom, and they certainly have a number of players capable of lighting the lamp regularly. But for some reason, they are not capitalizing with the one-man advantage. I tend...
