Chris Kreider spoke with nyrangers.com's Jim Cerny after the CT Whale's open day of training camp...

"I'm a rookie, and there is still a ton to be learned. I'm just getting my feet wet in my first pro camp. It's nothing I have experienced before, and it's exciting," Kreider said. "I'm just excited to play. I love playing hockey. I have dreamed my whole life about playing professionally and doing it as my occupation, and that's what I have the chance to be doing now. I'm glad to be here and playing hockey, and am trying to enjoy every second.

"I'm here to play. I'm here to learn. And I am here to get better. Nothing else from the outside factors in. This is a learning experience."

Here's the rest of Kreider's interview (via Blueshirts United)...

...i keep forgetting how mature this kid is. He could have easily come into camp with a big head from his success of last season, but as has been the case his entire hockey career he remains humble and just wants to work to get better every day.

Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record has more from Kreider here.

Beyond his superior offensive skill, Kreider showed during the first day of camp he's also a physically imposing figure (via Blueshirts United)...

"Clearly setting out to make a solid first impression, Kreider was explosive offensively, while also delivering a pair of thunderous checks---including one which lifted 6-foot-7, 250 pound defenseman Brent Henley up in the air before depositing him on his backside."

Rangers Assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld discussed the importance of Kreider playing with the Whale during the lockout...

"If nothing changes, Chris will start the season with (the Whale) and it will be a good opportunity for him to learn because this is a hard league. But I also think he's going to be a big player in Connecticut."

Cerny was also able to interview Chad Kolarik, who scored a goal in the shootout, which you can watch here.
