NHLHS Toronto Maple Leafs’ correspondent Luca Vacca reflects on Toronto’s first trade of 2011, a smart move that helps the Leafs both in the short and long term.
The Toronto Maple Leafs completed a trade yesterday that saw them send forward prospect Mikhail Stefanovich to the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Fabian Brunnstrom.
Brian Burke was quoted earlier as saying the team was looking to add quality and not necessarily assume a seller’s standpoint again this season. With his first move of 2011, he did exactly that by acquiring the once highly sought after Swedish player.

After failing to make the team out of camp, the Stars placed Brunnstrom on waivers in an attempt to send him to their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars. After he went unclaimed, he was assigned to Texas and has played the entirety of this season there.
