The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed left wing Mason Raymond to a $1 million, one-year contract.
The 28-year-old Raymond had 10 goals and 12 assists in 46 games for Vancouver last season. He was in Toronto's training camp for a tryout after going unsigned over the summer.
Raymond likely will play on the Leafs' third line.
Toronto announced the contract on Monday. General manager Dave Nonis said in a release that the team feels Raymond fits in well and will have a significant role.

A lot of players who would have otherwise been signed to contracts weren't this summer with the salary cap going down. That has meant there's some decent talent available on the free agent market and now that's meaning invitations to training camps.

The Maple Leafs training camp invitation to free agent winger Mason Raymond was not simply a favor being paid by the GM who drafted the 27-year-old forward in Vancouver back in 2005, it could end up being a significant depth addition and insurance against a potential extended holdout by restricted free agent Nazem Kadri.
âI had spoken to J.P. Barry maybe a month ago just...
As the Toronto Maple Leafs and forward Nazem Kadri work toward a new deal for the upcoming season, it appears it's no longer a matter of term but dollars.
