Welp, that’s it. Instead of working out a deal in the 11th hour, the billionaire owners couldn’t make a deal with their millionaire employees. The lockout is officially ON. Four work stoppages since 1992…that’s embarrassing.
The last time that Donald Fehr and Gary Bettman was Wednesday when the two sides exchanged proposals. Each side called the other’s proposal “unacceptable.” The biggest aspect keeping us from watching hockey: money. SHOCKER.
The players want more and the owners don’t want to pay it. There’s enough smearing going on with an election coming up. We don’t need to relay messages that end with, “I’m Ron Burkle and I approve of this message,” or “this message paid for by Sidney Crosby.” This is on both sides.
Who would’ve thought that Bud Selig would end up being the most popular commissioner in sports. Looks like we may just have to recap.our NHL 13 games for a while. This sucks…the lockout not NHL 13.

The Right Way Or The Bettman Way?
from Michael Grange of Sportsnet,
Every single contract an NHL player signs has a stamp of Gary Bettman's signature along the bottom of it. Every contract that has come to life in the past seven years carries his legal mark of approval.
But over the seven-year life of Bettman's masterpiece, the CBA that expired at 11:59 p.m. Saturday night, all those contracts...
In case you missed it, Gary Bettman's third work stoppage starts tonight
This time next week I should be in Nashville at a Predators/Hurricanes pre-season game. Am I fan of either team? No. Do I care? No. I want hockey. We all want hockey. We've been waiting for June for the sport to come back, attending prospect camps and kids' games and crossing off every calendar day until September 15th, praying that the CBA get resolved...

Morning Line
Gary Bettman has been the NHL's boss for almost 20 years. He was hired by the NHL to bring the salary cap, and so he did, as he had received the salary cap NBA Basketball: acquisition. Twice the lockout has been a stoppage during his reign, and each time the lockout is done. Now it is the third! He is certainly the NHL's most hated person. For every NHL team's arrival...

The owners’ commissioner is well-suited to the villain’s role
The Toronto Sun's Steve Simmons offers many lockout-related thoughts in his Sunday column, but his main thrust involves the fact that while both the NHL and NHLPA shoulder blame for the third lockout of a certain owners' commissioner's regime, the true Chairman of the Board has clearly mastered the villain's role:
Almost every time Gary Bettman opens his mouth...
No talks scheduled in NHL labor impasse
NEW YORK (AP) -- With a lockout drawing ever closer, the NHL and the players' union are in touch with each other after a day of internal meetings.
But no new negotiating sessions are scheduled for Friday, one day before Commissioner Gary Bettman has said he will lock out the players. This would be the NHL's fourth work stoppage since 1992.
On Thursday night, NHL deputy commissioner...
Cam Gore: Put the egos aside
It seems like only yesterday that the NHL lost an entire season before coming to an agreement before hockey got under way again. Some people called that CBA a win for the owners and others called it a win for the players. No matter how you look at it back then it is now apparent that the then head of the NHLPA Bob Goodenow and Gary Bettman did not like each other one bit. This conflict had an...
Lockout nears, no deal in sight
NEW YORK (AP) -- With only hours until a threatened NHL lockout, the league and the players' union appear no closer to a deal.

While the NHL is away these kids will still play
Peter Ceresnak (Peterborough Petes)
On the day when NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced that there will be yet another lockout; the best response was simple the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects are still going to keep playing. For all of you who are swearing off hockey because of the NHL/NHLPA nonsense then you don't know what you are going to miss.

NHL locks out its players

The action also marks the fourth shutdown for the NHL since 1992, including a year-long dispute that forced the cancellation of the entire 2004-05 season when the league held out for a salary cap.
The deal which ended that dispute expired...
