The Lightning lead the NHL in goals going into Friday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. After the game, the Bolts remain best in goals scored after a crushing 8-3 victory over the Jets. Rookie sensation Cory Conacher continues to play well. He got things going in the first period with his fourth goal of the season nearly eight minutes in. Two more goals by Steven Stamkos and Vinny Lecavalier made it a 3-0 score at intermission. All three first period goals were on a power play Conacher again got things going in the second period during the first thirty seconds. He tipped the puck in net after a shot just in side the blue line from defenseman Eric Brewer. The Bolts would have a 6-0 lead before Winnipeg finally got on the board in the third period. The Jets would score three goals within four and a half minutes but it was not enough. Tampa Bay now leads the NHL with 37 goals. They remain undefeated at home with a 5-0-0 record. Conacher’s three points on the night adds to his total of 12 and leads all NHL rookies. The post Lightning blowout the Jets at home appeared first on The Bay Cave.

Victor Hedman On His Way to “Elite Defenseman” Status

About Last Night…What’s Not on Ondrej Pavelec’s iPod

It’s safe to say that after this trip to Tampa, Ondrej Pavelec and the Winnipeg Jets won’t be  fans of Lou Christie anytime soon. Pavelec and backup goaltender Al Montoya combined to do a re-mix of Christie’s #1 hit from 1966, “Lightning Strikes” as they allowed eight goals to Tampa Bay and got thumped 8-3. Tampa scored three power-play goals in the first period and picked...

Rangers 3, Lightning 2

TAMPA – It took a back-up goaltender, of all things, to finally slow down the Tampa Bay Lightning. Martin Biron made 30 saves behind a stout New York Rangers defense on Saturday and held on for a 3-2 win that broke the Tampa Bay Lightning’s five-game win streak and sent them to their first loss in five home games. Scoring was minimal -- partly because just three penalties...
