The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced they have relieved  Guy Boucher from his head coaching duties, effective immediately. General manager Steve Yzerman announced that Martin Raymond and Dan Lacroix will share coaching responsibilities for the game tonight against the Winnipeg Jets. “Guy has poured his heart and soul into the Lightning organization for these past three years and we appreciate all the work he has done,” said Yzerman upon making the announcement. “But ultimately I am not satisfied with the direction we are heading and I believe making a change today is in the best interest of our franchise.” Firing Boucher at this point in the season is a bit surprising. Proves that having players like Steven Stamkos on your team will not save your job. Players perform on the ice and coaches coach. However, Yzerman knows what he wants and didn’t see it in Boucher. A report came out last month (read it here) about the Bolts possibly moving in a different direction from Guy Boucher. Now it’s a reality. Boucher lead the Bolts to the Eastern Conference finals in his first year to lose in game seven against Boston. Inconsistencies in team play last season and potentially missing the playoffs two straight seasons would eventually lead to his firing. Expect names like Syracuse Crunch coach Jon Cooper and former Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff to be mentioned as candidates for the job.
