Right wing Teddy Purcell, who had career highs in goals and assists last season, agreed to a three-year, $13.5 million contract extension with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

"When they show that trust and faith in you, you want to show them they made the right decision," Purcell told the Tampa Bay Times. "It makes you that much more hungry."

Purcell's two-year contract was due to expire after the upcoming season, following which he would have been eligible for free agency. Now he's tied to the team through 2015-16, making $4.5 million each season during the length of the extension.

Purcell, 26, ranked third on the Lightning with 24 goals last season, trailing only Steven Stamkos (60) and Martin St. Louis (25). Purcell's 41 assists were second on the team to St. Louis' 49.

After starting his NHL career by playing parts of three seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, Purcell came to Tampa Bay in a March 2010 deal.

The Lightning announced another deal Tuesday, as they acquired right wing B.J. Crombeen, on his 27th birthday, from the St. Louis Blues.

Tampa Bay sent fourth-round draft picks in 2013 and 2014 to St. Louis in exchange for Crombeen and a fifth-round selection in 2014.

Crombeen played 40 games for the Blues last season, amassing one goal, two assists and 71 penalty minutes.

"He's tough, no question," Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman told the Times. "He knows that role. He's an intelligent guy who knows what he has to do and when he has to do it. But mostly we like him because he competes hard. He has some skill. He's a legitimate player."
