Another sold out crowd at the Tampa Bay Times Forum was hoping to witness home dominance once again by the Lightning. However, they were outplayed the entire game by the Canadiens and their late rally did not carry into the shootout resulting in their fifth straight loss. Tampa Bay was called for five penalties in the first period and managed to give up just one goal. In the second, they got four power plays of their own but came away with nothing. With Montreal leading 3-0 in the final frame, defenseman Victor Hedman got the Bolts to within one after he scored two goals, one within two minutes of regulation. The tying goal was credited to Lightning defenseman Sami Salo when his shot deflected in off the skate of a Montreal player with under a minute left in regulation. Both teams headed into the shootout where Tampa Bay’s lack of offensive scoring showed one last time as Hedman, Steven Stamkos, and Martin St. Louis were unable to get the puck past goaltender Carey Price. The winner was the shot from Montreal’s David Desharnais that beat Anders Lindback to give Montreal the win, 4-3.
