Tampa Bay has signed right winger, Ryan Shannon to a one-year contract.
Shannon spent the last three seasons with the Ottawa Senators where he appeared in 180 games, recorded 24 goals, 39 assists and had a minus-10 rating. Before that he spent a season with the Anaheim Ducks in 2006-07, won the Stanley Cup, and spent a season with the Vancouver Canucks in 2007-08.
The Darien, Connecticut native played four years at Boston College from 2001 to 2005. Shannon received the team’s Bernie Burke Award for top rookie when he recorded 25 points in 38 games. In his sophomore year, Shannon represented the United States at the 2003 World Junior Championship. During his junior and senior years, he was named to the Hockey East All-Conference First Team and the All-American East Second Team.
The first task for Ryan Shannon will be choosing a new number to wear on his sweater as the number 26 is taken by 2011 Lady Byng winner, Martin St. Louis.
