On the Duck Pond:
Martin St. Louis
Tampa Bay Lightning
The best of the West went up against the best of the East and it wasn't even close. The Tampa Bay Lightning showed why they are tops in their conference, even without Steven Stamkos, in a 5-1 defeat of the Anaheim Ducks.
The Ducks, who were playing their second of four road games, have been ravaged by the stomach flu, which is making its rounds to all the players. Watching the game made Ducks fans ill, too.
Lifeless? Unmotivated? Unprepared? Backsliding into bad habits?
The Ducks fell behind early to goals from former Detroit Red Wing foe, Valtteri Filppula and a power play notch for Martin St. Louis, playing his 998th NHL game.
"It was a tough one. Not a really good start for us," said Mathieu Perreault. "They got the lead and [we thought] This can’t be happening to us. Even though we had a couple guys who are injured, we need to battle harder for sure."
The Ducks, who did not even get their first shot on goal until 13:30 minutes i...

Days after the on-ice incident in Boston, Steven Stamkos is at home in Florida on his way to a full recovery. During the game on Monday afternoon the Tampa Bay Lightning player fell awkwardly into his own goal crease and received a major leg injury. The tests concluded...

In the matter of Steven Stamkos, the question is: Will the Lightning's star center play again this season?
Coach Jon Cooper responded Thursday by saying "yes."
He admitted it is just a gut feeling but added, "In my heart, I know he's coming back. I have no doubt."
Cooper then doubled down by saying, "I don't think the question is going to be...

There are a few ways you can look at the Hurricanes shootout victory over the Anaheim Ducks last night. On one hand, the Hurricanes defeated the "best" team in the NHL and were able to fight back from another early deficit to do it. They also saw had another solid defensive effort, holding the Ducks to only nine scoring chances at even strength, providing goaltender Justin...
With a 3-2 shootout loss to Carolina on Friday night, the Ducks have three losses in a row on the road, but at least are making some progress.
They are still suffering the flu bug, with the latest victim, Mathieu Perreault, stepping out of the line up. But they earned a point and played well, which is something to build on for the final road game of this trip in Pittsburgh...
I feel for Steven Stamkos. I stubbed my toe so hard this morning.
