The NHL lockout has started to force Tampa Bay Lightning players to play elsewhere during the lockout. Defenseman Victor Hedman has agreed to play for Barys Astana of the KHL.

Per the Tampa Bay Times, Hedman’s agent Peter Wallen said his client wanted to play in the best league right now. He is scheduled to report to them as early as Friday.

Victor Hedman had one of his best offensive ouputs last season since being a member of the Lightning. Limited to 61 games, he scored five goals with 18 assists and recorded 23 points. But for now, will not be able to continue that success with the Lightning for a while as there is no hope for a resolution to the lockout.

According to Lightning left winger Ryan Malone, “it doesn’t look good.” Malone states that it “sounds” as if players are preparing for a year long lockout.

If that holds true, the National Hockey League will not be doing itself any favors. A year long lockout, another wasted season, will be devastating to a league that was just beginning to rise back to its feet after the season long lockout  of 2004-2005.

Sounds like the fans will suffer for an entire season once again.
