The Los Angeles Kings came back home from a 4 game road trip on Tuesday and have dominated every team they’ve played so far. The Kings had a 6 game winning streak snapped by the Chicago Blackhawks last week, but have now put together 3 wins in a row at home. The first came against the lowly Edmonton Oilers, but the next 2 were against 2 of the better teams in the Western Conference. The Kings put a complete game together against the San Jose Sharks defeating them 4 to 1 and then followed that with a shootout victory over the Colorado Avalanche. The one constant for this Kings team is their defense and the small amount of goals they allow each game. What has allowed for the Kings to climb up the standings is their offense rounding into form and producing more goals per game. LA has climbed all the way up to 2nd in the Pacific Division and 3rd overall in the Western Conference behind the Anaheim Ducks and the Chicago Blackhawks. Just about a month ago the Kings were in 5th in the Pacific Division and fighting to keep hold of the 8th spot in the West. Martin Jones (Photo credit: usatoday.com) In that month span the Kings have had winning streaks of 4, 6 and now 3 games. The Kings have only lost once in the last 10 games with victories coming over the likes of the Sharks, Ducks, Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues. This hasn’t been luck for the Kings, these win streaks are a result of their hard work in the defensive end of the rink, stellar goaltending and scoring from all over the team. The Kings have one of the most balanced attacks in all of the NHL. Every player on the team is a threat to score and the statistics show that as the Kings have 4 players with 10 or more goals. The Kings have no player ranked in the top 10 in goals or points, but they do the best goalie tandem in all of the NHL. Ben Scrivens and Martin Jones have played amazing over the past month, picking up the slack for injured superstar goalie Jonathan Quick. Jones has been a revelation as of late pulling off 8 wins in a row to start off his pro career. Jones has played more as of late, but Scrivens was essential to the Kings rise in the standings over this past month. The Kings are a complete team from top to bottom, but one thing I would like to see is that goal scoring threat that will step up in the big moment. That player could be Jeff Carter or even youngster Tyler Toffoli. The Kings should be happy with their recent play, but must continue to climb in the standings and grab that top spot in the Western Conference.
