Yesterday we made the case for Ryan Suter.   Today it is Zach Parise.   A Parise scenario implies a couple of things:   -The Penguins make signing Parise their top priority. -Crosby has done an effective job selling the Penguins to Parise. -Parise in effect resists the huge cash money that some teams will throw at him and signs a 7-year deal, somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-56 million.  Anything over $8 million a year for Parise is way too bizarre.   Quick reasons this is a possibility:   1. The Penguins need to replace Staal's 60-65 points. 2. This would give Crosby his long-awaited winger. Pens core forwards would be Crosby, Malkin, Neal, and Parise. You'd basically have two of the most lethal lines in hockey. 3. First line would be the P-C-P line (Parise-Crosby-Pascal). No problem at all with putting Pascal in there.    ::::::::::::::::::   Signing Parise gives the Pens this look up front:   Dupuis-Crosby-Parise
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Sullivan-Sutter-Cooke-Kennedy Vitale-Adams-Jeffrey-Tangradi   We'll take that.  The top 2 lines will be deadly when thrown out there back-to-back.  Then you have Brandon Sutter lurking around.  4th line is a 4th line.   ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::   Remaining cap space after Parise's $8 million a year would be $6.6 million.  Round it down to $6 million flat for *****.   Shero still has to fill the hole left by Michalek and to shore up the blue line a little bit more.  He can use the rest of the cap space to grab up some Suter also-rans in free agency.   Bryan Allen could be grabbed for $3-4 million. Dennis Wideman could be given a peek. Jason Garrison from Florida is all day.   The Pens may not need a big-name, impact defenseman.  A couple of serviceable guys who have been around the block could do the trick.   NOTE: This Parise post was much more difficult to justify than the Suter post from yesterday.
