The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired yet another defenceman.
General manager Brian Burke sent prospects Alex Berry and Stefano Giliati to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Matt Lashoff on Friday. The trade is being considered a minor league deal and a trade being used by the Maple Leafs to dump contracts. The Maple Leafs already have prospects Jesse Blacker, Keith Aulie, Korbinian Holzer and Juraj Mikus waiting for their shot at the National Hockey League.
The Leafs have been criticized for having an overabundance of defencemen by many hockey experts and fans, even though Brian Burke has stated over and over again that he always builds his team from the net out.
The 23-year-old Lashoff has appeared in 63-career games, split between the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning, scoring just one goal and tallying 14 assists.
