Mike Augello: Phaneuf Bruised, Not Broken; Brown, Komisarek To Return vs Wings
Dion Phaneuf was unable to dodge a bullet, but it did not seriously wound him. The Leafs captain left the ice in the third period of last night's 4-0 victory over Winnipeg after taking an Andrew Ladd shot in the face and was not at Leafs practice this morning.
Phaneuf did not suffer any broken bones from the shot, but was given the day to recuperate. He is expected to...
Mikhail Grabovski—Deal Or No Deal?
After posting career highs in goals, assists and points last season, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mikhail Grabovski has followed up his awesome 2010-11 performance with a good season, but hardly a dominant season—at least to date.
Through 35 games Grabovski has registered 12 goals and 23 points, which should put him just short of last seasons totals—say around 50 points when everything...
Red Wings' roar back, then fall
TORONTO (AP) -- Joffrey Lupul scored at 7:10 of the third period to help the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 after blowing a three-goal lead Saturday night.
With the game looking to have slipped out of Toronto's control, Lupul grabbed a rare turnover from Henrik Zetterberg behind the net and lifted a shot over goalie Jimmy Howard for his 19th goal.
More importantly...
The Toronto Maple Wings?
On a slightly lighter note given that the NHL has all but declared war on the PA via their realignment press release (no hockey next October, folks? Ken Holland told the Free Press’s Helene St. James that he’s just as bummed out about this news as we are), given what Brian Burke had to say about the demise of the enforcer yesterday and Mike Babcock’s rebuttal thereof (which...
Maple Leafs Look to Make it Three Straight vs. Red Wings
(Getty Images)
By Lukas Hardonk (@LukasHardonk)
The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a hot start to the New Year, which is no surprise based on the team’s history of success between January 1 and the end of the regular season. With a victory tonight and a little bit of luck, the Leafs can get as high as fifth in the Eastern Conference, three points clear of the final playoff spot...
Red Wings-Maple Leafs wrap-up: Lesson unlearned, unearned
There are games you circle on your calendar once you find out the extenuating circumstances surrounding them, and Saturday’s incredibly inefficient 4-3 loss to Toronto, once I found out that the Wings had scheduled both the Fathers’ Trip and a personal tour of the Hockey Hall of Fame around Saturday’s and tonight’s game against Chicago (7:30 PM EST, NBC Sports Network/WXYT...

Three Straight Wins For Leafs
TORONTO -- Joffrey Lupul kept the Toronto Maple Leafs from squandering two points they would have hated to lose.
The resurgent forward scored at 7:10 of the third period to help the Maple Leafs pull out a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings...
Leafs GM Burke bemoans evolution of NHL (AP)
Brian Burke is struggling to come to grips with the evolution of hockey. On a day the Toronto Maple Leafs general manager sent enforcer Colton Orr to the American Hockey League, he bemoaned that there doesn't appear to be much need for players like Orr in today's game. Long a proponent of rough-and-tumble hockey, Burke now presides over a Leafs team that is built largely...
Ken Beckett: Maple Leafs Game Day - Game 41: Red Wings vs. Leafs
Starting off the new year with two wins in a row, the Toronto Maple Leafs look to stay in the win column as they welcome the Detroit Red Wings to town for an original six match-up on Saturday night.
This is the only meeting between the two teams this season. In last season's lone game, Detroit picked up a 4-2 victory on home ice at Joe Louis Arena. Saturday's game marks...

The fighter-scorer is as rare as the 40-goal scorer, and almost as valuable
While the waiving of Colton Orr may not have signified the end of the pure fighter, it certainly signified the beginning of the end.
If Orr can't stick in Toronto, where I wouldn't be shocked to learn that GM Brian Burke has a "truculence" stencil on the wall behind his desk, there aren't many places left for guys like him. But don't think Orr's dismissal...
