Rangers backup goaltender Martin Biron, who the team recently waived, has announced his retirement from hockey via Twitter: After thinking about it it with my family, I've decided to retire as a player and move on to a new chapter. Thank you all for your support. — Martin Biron (@martybiron43) October 20, 2013 The former first round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres has played in 508 career NHL games, finishing with a .910 save percentage and a 2.62 GAA. He's had several more than capable seasons in the past, including a 72 game campaign with the Sabres in 2001-2002 where he posted a .915 save percentage and a 2.22 GAA. This season, however, he was a victim of the Rangers terrible start. In two games he has a .763 save percentage and a 7.61 GAA. The Rangers will be going with Jason Missiaen as the backup to Henrik Lundqvist. [follow]
