Toronto Maple Leafs General Manger Brian Burke and recently acquired Matthew Lombardi are both optimistic that he will make his return to the ice, when the Maple Leafs training camp opens up in around two months. Lombardi’s 2010/11 season barely got off the ground, when after two games he was diagnosed with a concussion and his season was all but loosed. Now yes, Lombardi is a risk, but a very safe risk because of the players the Maple Leafs gave up, versus the players we got back in return. If Lombardi can get anywhere near the 53 point mark he put up two seasons ago. This should help the Maple Leafs edge closer to the playoffs. Cody Franson was the prize in this deal for the Maple Leafs and my hope for this young defencemen is that he would crack 30 points this season. Franson will make $800K this season before turning RFA next summer. While Lombardi has one year left at $3.5 million, to prove that he is worth some money, before he becomes a UFA next summer too.
