Ron MacLean at CBC Sports has proclaimed "There won't be a lockout."

MacLean says the difference between this year's CBA negotiations compared to 2004-05 is that back then Gary Bettman had no choice but to shut down after the NHL lost $232 million the year before, while now all he wants to do is what both the NFL and NBA did and trim the players' percentage of revenues.

MacLean adds that with the growth since the last CBA, the players now earn 57 percent of hockey-related revenues (HRR) and have been getting larger absolute dollar amounts. So Bettman is looking to get it closer to 50/50 as the NFL and NBA do.

Another factor that could prevent another lockout, MacLean says, is player solidarity...

"Fehr has been in precisely this position many times at the MLBPA. Every time the PA stood its ground, there was never a lockout. The wildcard would be player solidarity. Fehr will keep them in check, and Bettman will make a deal."

...is a lockout going to happen? Probably. Am I giving you false hope with this blog post? Maybe. But I'm just so sick of all the doom and gloom articles that have been posted on this blog I decided we needed some ray of hope.
