Mike Adras, nine games into his 13th season as the Northern Arizona men's basketball team, resigned Friday. NAU released a statement saying Adras would "pursue other opportunities." He had a 193-170 record as a head coach, including a 2-7 mark this year. He was an assistant coach at NAU for seven years before taking over the program in 1999 after Ben Howland was hired at Pittsburgh. "Coach Adras has been a valuable member of the NAU and Flagstaff community for 20 years," said NAU President John Haeger. "We thank him for all he has contributed to the basketball program and to the university, and we and wish him the best in his future endeavors." Athletics director Jim Fallis announced that Dave Brown, a long-time NAU employee, will serve as interim head coach while a search for a permanent replacement is conducted. "It's important to maintain stability in the program, and I'm confident in Dave's abilities," Fallis said. Brown is a member of the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame and former head coach of the NAU's women's basketball team and Yavapai College men's team. "I'm personally committed to the success of the men's basketball program," Brown said. "I have worked closely with the athletes and the program for years, and I'm confident the Lumberjacks will perform well on and off the court." Adras led the Lumberjacks to Big Sky Conference regular season championships in 2006 and 2007 and an NCAA tournament appearance in 2000 when they won the conference tournament. He was the Big Sky Coach of the Year in 2006, when NAU went 12-2 in Big Sky play. He ranked second in wins and longevity in school history. "I am proud of what my team has built at NAU and of our student athletes," Adras said.
