The Washington Capitals just released a statement saying that defenseman Mike Green is projected to miss another 4-6 weeks of the NHL season. Green is expected to undergo abdominal surgery within the next few days. This almost makes it seem like the Capitals placing Green on the Long Term IR last Thursday to be sort of a precautionary measure to see if he would need a surgery. Green was projected to return to the lineup close to February 1. However, it now seems as though the offensive-defenseman won’t return until at least the first week of March. Green has only participated in 10 games this season for the Capitals. While in the lineup, the Capitals have gone 9-1-0. Without him, they are 15-16-1. It is quite obvious that the Capitals suffer without him in the lineup. In those 10 games, he has three goals and three assists. All of those points came in his first seven games of the season.
