Davis Drewiske – Richard Wolowicz/ Getty Images By James Stephan (@J_Habs) The Montreal Canadiens have signed Davis Drewiske to a two year contract extension; the defensive defenseman will be earning 625k in the 2013-2014 season, and 650k in the 2014-2015 season. Drewiske was acquired by Marc Bergevin in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2013. Drewiske played nine games, notching one goal and two assists during the regular season while not playing a single game in the Habs brief playoff run. The Drewiske signing may have many perplexed as to why the Canadiens might keep the Wisconsin native, but a quick glance at this year’s free agency market shows a very thin blue line group looking for a new contract. The financial aspects of this deal bode well for the Canadiens as signing a depth defenseman like Drewiske to a contract just under 700k is excellent value for what he brings to the team.
