The Morning After:
Yesterday’s results:

Capitals 2, Panthers 1 Red Wings 2, Predators 1
Canadiens 4, Sabres 3 (SO) Jets 4, Bruins 2 Avalanche 3, Oilers 1

3. Blake Wheeler (1 G, 2 A)

Tonight’s slate:

Game of the night:
Pittsburgh Penguins @ Philadelphia Flyers
1:00 ET… TV: NHL Net. (US), Local Networks

Overall: Penguins (32-20-5) … Flyers (32-18-7)
Away/Home: Penguins (15-12-3) … Flyers (14-9-5)
Last 10: Penguins (6-3-1) … Flyers (4-4-2)
Season Series: 2-0 Flyers

Starting goaltenders:
PIT- Marc-Andre Fleury (2011-12 stats: 29-14-3, 2.34 GAA)
PHI- Ilya Bryzgalov (2011-12 stats: 20-11-6, 2.75 GAA)

Injury report:
PIT - Sidney Crosby (concussion, out) and Tyler Kennedy (high-ankle sprain, out).
PHI - Tom Sestito (lower-body injury, out), James van Riemsdyk (concussion, out), and Daniel Briere (upper-body injury, out).

Three things to watch:
1. Bitter rivalry
Whenever these two teams meet, you know it will get messy. Due to history, and geographic location, the Penguins and Flyers represent the closest natural rivals to each other, spurning a hatred that has carried on for generations. With players like Arron Asham, Max Talbot, and Jaromir Jagr all carrying a unique history with the opposing team, you can expect this tilt to get chippy. Should be a great old-school game with the team that battles hardest coming out on top.
2. Possible round one?
Right now the Flyers sit in fourth and the Penguins are in sixth which is relatively close to making them opposing playoff seeds. In fact, if the Pens win, they would then move into the fourth seed, knocking the Flyers literally down a peg. Today's nationally televised game should have the feel of a playoff game as these two teams try to determine if they have enough for a deep playoff run.
3. Ilya Bryzgalov
Bryzgalov might be the biggest running joke of the season but now is the time for him to put on his game face. The enigmatic starting goalie has been hot and cold since the new year as the Flyers crave consistency between the pipes. If he allows more than three goals, it will show the team that perhaps he isn't there guy.
Final thought: The Penguins recently lost a tough one to the Anaheim Ducks but they should see their luck turn around today. With the Flyers fighting off the flu bug and still tweaking their lineup, the Pens should be better prepared, forcing their opponent to play their game. Prediction: Penguins 3, Flyers 1

The rest of today’s predictions:
Blackhawks over Blue Jackets
Blues over Wild
Islanders over Hurricanes
Capitals over Lightning
Canucks over Maple Leafs
Coyotes over Stars
Kings over Flames
