Three things to watch:
1. Detroit’s home winning streak
As you know, the Red Wings hold the NHL record for most consecutive home wins (23). Remarkably, they have not lost at Joe Louis Arena since Nov. 5. They’ve had some good fortune in the last month or so, though, as most of their home wins have been close. At some point the streak is going to end. At the same time, it doesn’t seem like the Wings will ever lose at home again.
2. Canucks bouncing back
In a 3-1 loss on Tuesday in Nashville, the Canucks lost in regulation for the first time in 14 games. The Sedins weren’t in sync and Ryan Kesler was pushed around. You can bet they’ll be determined to get back on track tonight. With a regulation win tonight, they can actually take over the top seed in the Western Conference.
3. Opening 20 minutes
Both of these teams are great in the first period. Vancouver leads the NHL with a +31 goal differential in the opening frame, while Detroit has out-scored their opponents 33-9 in the first period during their streak at home. The opening 20 minutes will likely play a role in seeing whether the Wings’ streak continues.

Final thought: Detroit’s streak has been nothing short of amazing. But it ends tonight. The Canucks have had success in the Joe in recent seasons and know how to beat Jimmy Howard. Look for them to dethrone the Datsyuk-less Wings in this one. Prediction: Canucks 2, Red Wings 1 (OT)

The rest of today’s predictions:
Sharks over Maple Leafs
Ducks over Hurricanes
Panthers over Wild
Blues over Predators
Jets over Lightning
Blackhawks over Stars
Coyotes over Flames
Oilers over Flyers
