Brett Cook may have just slugged away his hockey career.

Cook was playing for Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario, when he did the unthinkable — he punched a ref.

For now, his Ontario University Athletics hockey career is over, as he received a lifetime ban “from participating in any OUA-sanctioned competition for the remainder of his university career,” according to an OUA statement posted on TorontoSun.com.

As seen in the video above, referee Nicholas Piche attempted to contain Cook by the bench during a fight when Cook clocked him.

Cook is used to watching his team play without him, as the goon came to the OUA after an Ontario Hockey League career that saw him pot just 19 goals and 47 assists to go with 344 penalty minutes.

“What I did was wrong, plain and simple,” Cook said in an OUA release. “My actions were unacceptable, and I take full responsibility. My teammates, coaches and I are thankful that Mr. Piche was not hurt. I am deeply sorry for my actions, for embarrassing my university, the OUA, the CIS and the dignity of the game of hockey, and I fully accept the sanctions determined by the OUA.”

  • if we would just stick with the punishment, would stop some of this stuff. will probaly be playing in NHL in a couple years.
  • If this guy gets to play hockey again it will be a miracle. Time for the WWE Mr. Cook. You are a goon and a disgrace to the game ...
