One of the main criticisms of bringing Rick Nash on board was his contract. He has six years remaining at $7.8 million per. But Jesse Spector at the Sporting News puts us at ease with this...

Rick Nash's cap hit $7.8 million. Artem Anisimov, Brandon Dubinsky and Tim Erixon: $7.825 million.

After the trade the Rangers are a little over $13 million under the cap. They still need to re-sign RFAs Michael Del Zotto and Anton Stralman.

...so what time do the Rangers announce the Doan signing today. lol

...i was very much concerned about Nash's contract ending in 2018, but I forget how young he is (28-years old). When is contract is over he'll be just 34. Not too bad considering all the other crazy contracts out there. Including Brad Richards' which makes him a Rangers till the age of 39.

After being traded, Brandon Dubinsky said this about his new home in Columbus (Columbus Dispatch)...

"It's one of those things where I knew if it was going to happen, I'd be a part of it. But even if you expect it, you're still kind of shocked. For me, it's the first time I've ever been traded. It's a tough day. But I'm already looking forward. My focus is going to be on helping my new team win games. I'm not going to be looking back wondering what would have happened with the Rangers. I want to be part of the group of guys that get Columbus where it wants to go."

...listen the trade was a steal, no doubt, but the Rangers will miss Dubinsky's grit and determination. That is until Nash scores a hat trick against the Flyers this year.

Portzline adds that Artem Anisimov is in Fiji on his honeymoon and may not know he's been traded yet.

Interesting Nash numbers from Scott Cullen at TSN...

"Nash, 28, is a seven-time 30-goal scorer, but Nash's 59 points in 2011-2012 represented his lowest total since 2006-2007 and his minus-19 rating was his worst since 2003-2004.

Since 2003-2004, Nash has scored 272 goals, which ranks fifth in the league over that time (behind Ilya Kovalchuk, Alex Ovechkin, Jarome Iginla and Dany Heatley)..."

Cullen adds that while Nash is the far superior player he only had six more even strength points than Artem Anisimov (38 to 32) last season.

...i really don't put much stock into those down numbers last year. He was on a terrible team with no supporting cast. He will thrive playing with a real center and I fully expect him to bounce back with at least a 35 goal season.

So how good is Nash? This good (H/T to reader cb1)...

Yesterday, James posted a transcript of the Sather/Nash conference call, now here's the audio...
