Saturday’s night game against the Boston Bruins seem to me a replica of the Toronto Maple Leafs’s lost against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday, only this time the Leafs are on the winning side. This game held a lot of highlights for Leaf players. The most notable one was defensive defenseman Luke Schenn went end to end for a goal that went in the up right hand corner over Tim Thomas. Another highlight was Maple Leafs top prospect Nazem Kadri first goal of his NHL career, which is something that Leafs fans have been wait for, for quite some time. James Reimer showed another strong effort against a high caliber team, which supports the claim of him being Toronto’s starting goalie for the short and long term. He made 35 saves out of 37 shots. The last player on the Leafs that should get recognition for the 5 – 2 over the Bruins is Joey Crabb. Who has a career night with one goal and two helpers. The Leafs had five different scorers and neither of them have scored five goals this season, which speaks to the depth and the drive the Leafs have right now. Luke Schenn (4th goal), Nazem Kadri (1st goal), Joey Crabb (3rd goal), Mike Brown (3rd goal), and Keith Aulie (2nd goal). On the other side of the rink Adam McQuaid (2nd goal) and Daniel Paille (3rd goal) scored for the Bruins. So I guess it was a night of unsung heroes for both teams.
Overall Toronto isn’t a good team … YET … but their most recent win put them at 74 points which is good enough to match their total from last season, with nine games left in the regular season. This says that there are obvious signs of statistical improvement.
