SUNRISE, Fla. -- Less than a week after returning from injury, Florida Panthers goaltender Tim Thomas is nursing another one. Thomas left with 2:59 left in a 2-2 game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night. Panthers coach Kevin Dineen said the lower-body injury suffered Tuesday was not the same groin injury that previously hampered Thomas. Dineen did not have an update on Thomas' status but said the team would likely be "making a phone call to San Antonio." The injury appeared to occur at about 16:55 of the third period after Thomas stopped a slap shot by Chicago's Andrew Shaw. Thomas was partially crouched in the crease and slow to get up. It was not until referee Kevin Pollock noted Thomas was having difficulty that the goalie came to the bench. He flexed his right leg a few times before walking off the ice and back to the dressing room under his own power. "I could see that he was uncomfortable," Dineen said. "I didn't want Thomas to play out there, either maybe hurt himself a little bit more or not be able to play to his full potential." Thomas finished the night with 25 saves in just over 57 minutes. Jacob Markstrom came in to relieve Thomas, stopping two shots in the final eight minutes of regulation. He allowed shootout goals to Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp in Florida's 3-2 loss. The Panthers are likely to recall veteran Scott Clemmensen from the American Hockey League. The goaltender was loaned to San Antonio on Oct. 18. Erin Brown can be contacted @rinkside.
