Found November 26, 2012 on NY Rangers Blog:
Actions often speak louder than words. As the NHL and the players are stuck in a PR battle, it's easy for each side to spin things however they want them to appear. Actions, though, speak for themselves. Some players made the best of the situation and helped to organize a charity game in Atlantic City, a trip that was not so convenient for many of the attendees (Henrik Lundqvist came all the way from Sweden just to play). For one night, players and fans could forget and about the lockout and the economics involved. For one night, everyone in attendance and on the ice could enjoy hockey for the sake of hockey. Gary Bettman and other NHL executives did not appear to be on the same page. A source directly associated with NBC Sports has informed me that the NHL specifically requested to NBC that they not broadcast Operation Hat Trick. While it's not definite that NBC would have gone through with the broadcast, the NHL's intervention seems to have been enough to end...

Bettman Is The Problem

from Jack Todd at the Montreal Gazette, Let’s face the truth, folks: Gary Bettman has become hockey’s worst enemy. Bettman is now the author of three lockouts and the disastrous expansion into the Sun Belt, egomaniac, a man who would rather destroy the National Hockey League than form a workable partnership with the players. Under his watch, the NHL has already lost...

It’s High Time for Bettman to Admit Phoenix Is A Mistake

As Glendale, Arizona City Council convenes to vote on a restructured lease agreement between potential buyer Greg Jamison and the municipality, the future of the Coyotes in the Copper State is very much up in the air and it’s about time that Gary Bettman admits that hockey in Phoenix just won’t work out.  But why won’t Bettman let [...]

Page 6 reports that NY Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist auctioned off his dusty goalie mask for $66,000 -- all for charity. Lundqvist’s mask was sold through an auction with Steiner Sports for... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Blackhawks player retweets Bettman death threat

Chicago forward Dave Bolland. Photo Credit: Wikipedia Commons Dave Bolland, a forward for the Chicago Blackhawks, appears to be the latest professional athlete to make a questionable decision on Twitter. What did he do? Well, he apparently retweeted a tweet from a fan who was calling for the death of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who has long been the target of fans’ ire, especially...

HENRIK LUNDQVIST SHOWS MR. PORTER “THE WAY I DRESS”

He’s recognized by many as one of the best-dressed athletes, but Henrik Lunqvist wasn’t always a fashion maven. In a new feature on MrPorter.com, the Swedish goaltender and sports style icon admitted that he wasn’t very into clothes until the age of 16 or 17. And hockey is partly responsible for his sartorial upgrade. “I started to make my own money as a hockey player which...

Team Richards 10, Team Hartnell 6

Henrik Lundqvist had 57 saves and pretty much single handedly won the game for Team Richards in front of a soldout crowd of 10,792 in Atlantic City. But that doesn't really matter. What does, is the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for victims of Hurricane Sandy. I think this post game pic taken by good friend of the blog Stefanie A. says it all... TheNYRBlog...

NHL players help Sandy victims

Locked-out NHL players hit the ice Saturday night to raise money for Superstorm Sandy victims. New York Rangers star Henrik Lundqvist made 57 saves in the Operation Hat Trick charity game at Boardwalk Hall to help Team New York beat Team New Jersey 10-6. Tickets ranged from $20 to $100, and the players' equipment will be autographed and auctioned off. The proceeds are earmarked...

More Cancellations; No All Star Game

Dear NHL fans, in order to give you less to be thankful for, Gary Bettman has axed more of your favorites.  Games are now cancelled through December 14 and the annual All Star Game that was to be held in Columbus was kiboshed as well.It is getting a little tiresome at this point. Bobby Ryan, who swore he was not going to take someone else's job overseas, realized the lockout...

What Is Burke’s Plan?

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, Brian Burke has made some recent appearances alongside Gary Bettman and Bill Daly on the NHL side of the labour negotiations, which raises some fascinating questions. Is Burke representing himself, his personal views, or the views of the ownership of the Toronto Maple Leafs? Burke is a known hardliner on the NHL’s side, a hawk on...

Morning Line

“If I was a company being courted by the NHL today, or if I was advising a company being courted, I would be concerned.” The current commissioner [Gary Bettman, commissioner since 1993] has three work stoppages under his belt.” -Michael Neuman, managing partner for Scout Sports and Entertainment.  More from Terry Lefton and Christopher Botta of SportsBusiness Journal.

NHL players vote in step toward dissolving union

TORONTO -- NHL players are a step closer to dissolving their union. NHL Players' Association members voted this week to give the union's executive board the power to file a "disclaimer of interest" until Jan. 2, The Canadian Press said Friday. The news agency, citing an unidentified source, said the vote drew more than the two-thirds of the required support. The...

Travis Yost: Erik Karlsson? Still Erik Karlsson

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- Erik Karlsson's one of the most electric blue line talents in the National Hockey League. So electric, in fact, Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr agreed early on to ensure that the entire world -- not just North America -- could watch the kid play. Sigh. Karlsson's been skating with Jokerit of SM-liiga in Finland during the NHL...
