via NHL.com, Buffalo Sabres right wing Patrick Kaleta will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for an incident against the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night at First Niagara Center. Kaleta was offered the opportunity for an in-person hearing as required by provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for any suspension that can exceed five games. At 3:10 of the first period, Kaleta collided with Columbus defenseman Jack Johnson near the boards just inside the Buffalo zone. No penalty was assessed for that hit, but Kaleta received a fighting major after engaging with the Blue Jackets' Jared Boll after the hit. Johnson remained in the game. The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

Patrick Kaleta suspended pending hearing for this bush league hit

Buffalo Sabres puke Patrick Kaleta has been suspended by the National Hockey League's department of Player Safety, pending a hearing for this dirty hit on Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson. Kaleta is a repeat offender, having been suspended a couple of times, so I expect him to get at least a 2-3 game suspension for this hit. From the NHL.COM --- At 3:10 of...

Kaleta Will Meet With The NHL On Tuesday

The NHL announced Patrick Kaleta will have an in-person hearing on Tuesday for his hit on Jack Johnson Thursday night. The Sabres play Chicago tonight and Minnesota Monday, so Kaleta will have missed (served) two games before the Tuesday hearing. At one point an in-person hearing has meant a 5+ game suspension, but this year at least one requested in-person hearing resulted in...

GARTH'S CORNER: Kaleta Has A Hearing

Kaleta was offered the opportunity for an in-person hearing as required by provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for any suspension that can exceed five games. At 3:10 of the first period, Kaleta collided with Colu...

Sabres’ Kaleta Suspended

Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta has been suspended, pending a hearing, as the NHL’s Vice President of Hockey and Business Development and Director of Player Safety, Brendan Shanahan looks into Kaleta’s head hit on Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson during Thursday nights game at the First Niagara Center. The hearing was originally scheduled for Friday, but has...

Frustration Building In Buffalo

from John Vogl of the Buffalo News, Will the fans put up with what they’re seeing? Will owner Terry Pegula? If so, for how long? For a good chunk of the crowd in First Niagara Center, the answer was 40 minutes. There were rows and rows of empty seats as the third period began, the fans apparently deciding they had better ways to spend their time. The ones who stuck around...

Sabres’ Mikhail Grigorenko to sit tonight for Johan Larsson

As expected the Sabres will scratch 19-year-old center Mikhail Grigorenko tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Rookie Johan Larsson a scratch Tuesday will pivot Zemgus Girgensons and Brian Flynn inside the First Niagara Center. Grigorenko one of 17 pointless Sabres hasn’t showcased the competitiveness coach Ron Rolston wants to see. “He’s got to continue consistency...

Sabres’ Thomas Vanek scores between the legs goal (VIDEO)

via YouTube Sabres’ sniper Thomas Vanek put on his fancy pants Thursday night for the Sabres’ lone goal in their 4-1 loss to Columbus.  It’s a shame for the Sabres that style points don’t count.  But even if they were counted, the Sabres would have found some way to lose.  That’s what they do.

GARTH'S CORNER: More Sabres Should Feel Like Weber Does

Sabres D Mike Weber has had better games than the last Sabres games against the Blue Jackets. Weber was on the ice for all four Columbus goals. He finished the forgettable game with a -4 rating. His D partner (at least for the first period) Tyler Myers, finished the game -3. Sabres coach Ron Rolston has decided to scratch Weber for tonight's game in Chicago. Personally...

GARTH'S CORNER: Rolston Wants More Urgency From Grigorenko

It only took Mikhail Grigorenko 4 games to play himself out of the Buffalo lineup. His head coach Ron Rolston wants to see more urgency in his play away from the puck. He wants to see Grigo making plays with the puck. Hoe wants the 19 year old to hold on to more pucks to make plays. Bottomline: Rolston wants Grigorenko to create more offense for the team that has the NHL's worst...

Kevin Freiheit: Sabres/Jackets preview, what's the plan for Grigorenko?

Another Sabres game night and we're still waiting on the first win of the season. Could tonight's game vs. Columbus be the one? Practice notes: -Ryan Miller looks to get the start in goal tonight -Johan Larsson is in, Mikhail Grigorenko is out -John Scott and Alexander Sulzer appear to be healthy scratches -Henrik Tallinder was skating during practice, but wearing...

GARTH'S CORNER: Vanek Cruises Down Hertl Ave.

Rather entertaining first period here at First Niagara Center. The Sabres trail the Blue Jax 3-1 after 20 minutes of play. Buffalo fans have had three things to cheer about: 1). Thomas Vanek's cruise down Hertl Avenue Thanks, Sabres.com 2. Kaleta-Boll 3. McCormick-Prout Thanks, Hockey-Fights.com ___________________________________________________...

Sabres’ Thomas Vanek scores between-the-legs goal vs. Columbus

Buffalo Sabres forward Thomas Vanek didn’t want San Jose Sharks rookie Tomas Hertl to be the only one scoring between-the-legs goals.  Vanek deflected the puck past Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky while his stick was between his legs.  Personally, I think the most impressive part was the no look pass by his teammate Steve Ott with a Blue Jackets defender right on...

Thomas Vanek goes through the legs for sick goal

It’s not quite as sexy as the through-the-legs display that Tomas Hertl showcased earlier this week, but Thomas Vanek netted his own impressive goal through the five hole against the Blue Jackets on Thursday. Let’s hope his teammates can keep it in their pants, unlike Hertl’s. [@GoldAndOrSmith] The post Thomas Vanek goes through the legs for sick goal appeared first on The Nosebleeds.

Troubled Teams Early In The Season

from Damien Cox of The Spin, --The Buffalo Sabres. Winless in five with only five goals scored, this has started in nightmarishly bad fashion for Ron Rolston's group, an odd collection of unproven kids, highly-paid vets who have never lived up to their contracts and a veteran goalie, Ryan Miller, who maybe should have left two seasons ago. Miller is at least a card the...

Sabres-Blackhawks Preview

The Buffalo Sabres are off to their worst start in 14 years. Facing the reigning Stanley Cup champions on the road isn't likely to change that. The Sabres attempt to avoid a sixth straight defeat Saturday night when they meet the Chicago Blackhawks. Buffalo (0-4-1) hasn't endured a worst start to a season since going 0-5-2 to begin 1999-2000. The Sabres have shown few...
