Wednesday night’s Philadelphia Flyers-Pittsburgh Penguins game had all the makings of a playoff game.  Two intense rivals fighting to the bitter end, and a fully packed barn that was rocking.  Wayne Simmonds had a fantastic game against the Penguins, recording two goals, one assist and a fight in the Flyers 6-5 win. For those of you that don’t know, a Gordie Howe Hattrick is...
CAN'T GET ENOUGH

Analyst's odd words to describe Crosby, Malkin

Analysts of any sport are paid to use intelligent words when describing the games, players, coaches, etc.  NBC Sports Network’s Mike Milbury shouldn’t get paid much.  During Wednesday’s Flyers/Penguins game while describing how Penguins’ studs Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin can’t get enough of scoring goals and making plays on offense, he used a term that doesn’t fit...

Flyers Dig Deep, Overcome Resilient Pens

What started off as yet another disastrous start for the Flyers turned around after one of those famous early Peter Laviolette timeouts, resulting in a 6-5 wild win.  The Orange & Black head back to Philadelphia to prepare for the […]

Mike Milbury Compares Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin to ‘Crack Addicts’ to Describe Their Play (Video)

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are two of the most aggressive offensive players in the NHL, and NBC Sports analyst Mike Milbury found a new way to describe that offensive hunger on Wednesday night. The outspoken analyst has a unique way of giving hot hockey takes, and Wednesday night was no different, as Milbury used what’s usually looked at as an insult to describe the Pittsburgh...

26 seconds in the mind of Ilya Bryzgalov

It's amazing, when you think about it. A meteor, rocketing through space for millions -- billions -- of years finally came to its end by burning up in the atmosphere of planet earth, in plain view of someone's appropriately placed dash camera. Amazing! What a rare happenstance!  They say something like this only happens once a decade, and only once every 70...
PUSHING AND SHOVING

Malkin hurt after being going into boards

For anyone that wants to question the toughness of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin, they might want to check out this clip from the Penguins/Panthers game on this Friday night. In the third period of play, Malkin was knocked hard into the boards by Florida defenseman Erik Gudbranson and keep an eye on his neck as it snaps back from the collision: Malkin's current...

The Harlem Shake: Flyers Edition

The 'Harlem Shake' is a fad/craze/sensation that has been making its rounds on YouTube and social media sites over the past couple of weeks.  It is admittedly starting to get old, but it's really hard not to enjoy this one. The Flyers first goal in last night's 6-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins was undoubtedly odd, but Pheonix Coyotes forward and Twitter...

Not A Very Good Team In Philadelphai

from Sam Donnellon of the Philadelphia Daily News, It would be one thing if the second-year players who showed promise in smaller roles last season were the cause of this. Then you could talk about experience and improvement. But with the exception of Sean Couturier, who turned 20 in December, they have handled the added pressure. Brayden Schenn has 14 points. Read, now sidelined...

Matt Read Out Six Weeks With Muscle Tear In Ribs

Photo via NHL.com By: Jake Pavorsky (@JakePavorsky) For the Philadelphia Flyers, the good news is always accompanied with an extra helping of bad news. Despite a 6-5 win over instate rival Pittsburgh Penguins, the team was dealt what could be a crippling blow. GM Paul Holmgren has announced that left wing Matt Read will miss six weeks with torn rib cage muscles. The injury reportedly...

Wayne Simmonds records a Gordie Howe hat trick against Penguins (Video)

Philadelphia Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds completed what is known as the Gordie Howe hat trick on Wednesday night in an exciting 6-5 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Howe, who played for the Detroit Red Wings for 25 years in the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, had a rare combination of scoring ability and toughness. His style of play led to the feat of scoring a goal, recording an assist...
HOW'D THAT HAPPEN?

Flyers somehow score with five Pens in crease

This was a completely bizarre series of events.  First off, how the puck stayed out of the net for so long is beyond me.  Second off, what on Earth was Penguins goalie Tomas Vokoun doing?  He was the only Penguin not in the crease. Phoenix Coyotes forward Paul Bissonnette described it best though. Well executed Harlem Shake during the Pens vs Flyers game tonight. twitter.com/BizNasty2point…...

TV Ratings: Near-Record For Flyers/Penguins (Also: Celtics/Lakers, Indiana/Mich. St.)

The Flyers/Penguins rivalry earned the second-largest NHL regular season audience ever on NBC Sports Network. In other news, the Celtics/Lakers rivalry was less of a draw for ESPN, and the top five clash between Indiana [...]
